Your privacy is guaranteed: dictation audio and transcription run locally on your computer. Internet access is used for first-time package/model downloads, support messages, and update checks.
How It Works
HeyGenie keeps the workflow simple: record locally, stop, then paste from the clipboard.
Speak
Click Start or press Ctrl + Shift + G, then speak naturally while HeyGenie records locally.
Copy
Click Stop or press Ctrl + Shift + G again. HeyGenie copies the final transcript to the clipboard.
Questions
Does HeyGenie send my voice to an online transcription service?
No. Dictation uses the local faster-whisper worker on your computer. First setup may download packages and the model.
Why does the first launch take time?
The local Whisper model needs to load once. HeyGenie can stay in the tray after that so the next recording starts faster.
Can I start recording without opening the window?
Yes. While HeyGenie is running, press Ctrl + Shift + G. It starts recording without showing the window. Press the shortcut again to stop and copy the transcript.
What model does it use?
The default setup uses base.en for lower latency. Advanced users can choose another faster-whisper model before setup.
How do I install HeyGenie?
Download HeyGenie.exe and open it. If Whisper files are missing, click Download Whisper Files inside the app.
