I don’t believe in keeping New Year’s resolutions. I mean, what’s even the slightest hope that I'm going to do it just because it’s a new year, just because the earth has completed another revolution around the sun? Sorry if I'm being realistic :P
And I think this same realism applies to money.
I have searched a lot about growing money. All that it comes down to is creating cash flows and multiple sources of income. I just don’t see another way out of it.
Sometimes I think investing in some magical stock or mutual fund is going to get me millions, and then I can sit at home, be with my family, have good food, sleep, travel around the world, and do whatever I want in the heat of the moment.
I believe these thoughts are nothing but a reflection of my wishes as I watch movies and stories of highly “successful” people who have billions filled up in their name.
Reality check: Investing can help your money grow and protect it from inflation, but it rarely creates life-changing wealth on its own for most people. Those overnight success stories usually skip years of work, failures, and cash-flow struggles behind the scenes.
So, How Does Money Actually Come Into Your Hands?
Okay, let’s look at the possible ways you can get some money in your hands.
- Daily job
- Part-time job
- Business (service)
- Business (product)
- Inheritance (your parents made good money and you get to consume it)
For most people, the “daily job” is the default path because that’s what I was taught to do. You study well, you get a good job, you make money, settle down, and blah blah.
A daily job gives you predictable income. It pays the bills, puts food on the table, and gives a sense of security. But the catch is simple: when you stop working, the money usually stops too.
The Path Nobody Talks Enough About
What nobody told me early enough is business (service or product). Then I hear origin stories of Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.
Some of them were born with a platinum spoon in their mouths. They had a pretty good cushion to fall back on in times of failure.
Did you have a platinum or at least a silver spoon in your mouth? Then try your hand in business. Fail fast, learn fast, grow fast.
Or do you have good entrepreneurship skills and you believe in yourself? Then take a loan and start a business.
Why business matters: A business, whether service-based (like consulting, freelancing, repair work) or product-based (selling something people buy), has the potential to create cash flows that are not directly tied to every hour you work. This is where multiple income streams are actually built.
Perseverance, resilience, optimism… this will make you rich.
Huh, what’s wealthy then? Maybe some other time. Ciao!
Three Traits That Actually Matter
- Perseverance: Keep going, no matter what.
- Resilience: Bounce back after you fall.
- Optimism: Believe it will work out.
Money follows value. Cash flows follow effort, skills, and systems built over time. There’s no reset button on January 1st, only consistent action, uncomfortable decisions, and patience.
